Today’s diary from the cabin comes amidst a whirl of worldwide news, mainly depressing, terrifying and despairing for the future of our planet.
And in amongst it all, in a tiny speck of a dot in Leeds, is something going on that is quite incredible, humbling and joyous.
Unfortunately it is not headline grabbing, or world dominating, but maybe, just maybe, today, those of us who were beavering away getting the cafe one step closer to opening, have made the world a tiny little bit better than it was when we woke up:
Today Jews, Muslims, Christians; British, Eritrean, Pakistani, American and Canadian; men and women, came together for a common vision and a common purpose.
We are building a home. Together. It is going to be our home. It is going to be a home that is loved, that exudes love, that is, quite simply a tangible expression of Love.
Where is the Love?
It is in the caring paintwork in bringing an unused coffee table back to life, it is in the home baked lemon cookies brought in by one of the team, it is in the toothbrush that was used to clean every last nook and cranny of the second hand fridge, and it is in the hand stitched cushions that create a snug area at the back.
Have hope, oh people of the world, because when we actually look around us, locally, on our streets and in our neighbourhoods and cities, there are opportunities all the time to build a better world.
Let’s do it, because quite frankly the opposite, to wallow in despair and fear at the news that is being shown us from around the world, is much much worse.
